EHSAS - Cluster Vision

Better Teaching, Better Learning for the 21st Century Student through the Lens of the New Zealand Curriculum

The schools within the Volcanics cluster are committed to the development of a sustainable professional learning community which fosters collaboration and creates a culture of improvement and success for students and teachers.

Through the maintenance and improvement of collaboration between cluster schools we aim to:

  1. Improve student achievement across the whole school.

  2. Provide quality teacher professional development for each of the project focus areas with an emphasis on “Evidence Based Practice” and “Teaching as Inquiry”.

  3. Improve the leadership capability within the cluster

  4. Expand school partnerships with iwi, hapu and whanau through improved networking in the community and the development of online environments, which allow whanau to be more involved with their children’s learning.

The key focus of the project is to see students leaving schools in the Volcanics Cluster with qualifications that reflect their potential and enable them to contribute positively to New Zealand Society in the 21st century. For example, students leaving school either to move into paid employment, or to enter an apprenticeship or tertiary study. As all the schools in the cluster have a large percentage of Maori and Pasifika students, the project will focus on these students with the belief (based on experience) that systems and strategies used to improve outcomes for Maori and Pasifika students improve outcomes for all students.
